Charles II counterfeit crown
The coin illustrated here purports to be a crown piece of Charles II dated 1672 but is obviously counterfeit. The portrait has been modelled in a crude manner, the neck in particular having suffered at the hands of an unskilled engraver, and the lettering on the edge is also very poorly rendered.
We do not know for sure when the piece was actually made but it shows the difficulty counterfeiters experienced in trying to match the beautiful coins struck on the new screw presses introduced during the reign of Charles II.
