FAQs
Below you can find a list of our frequently asked questions. If you have a question you would like us to answer that isn’t here, please email borrowabox@royalmintmuseum.org.uk
What is Museum in a Box?
A Museum in a Box is a small electronic box that comes with a collection of objects for people to handle and look at. Each object has its own sticker, which when placed on the box plays an audio file specific to that item. Our new reminiscence box collection focuses on the Royal Mint and the audio for each object prompts participants to share their own memories on a variety of topics.
Is anything else included with the reminiscence box?
Yes, a Panasonic Toughbook laptop kindly donated by Panasonic. The Toughbook enhances the sessions by providing digital content, such as music and videos.
How much does it cost to loan a reminiscence box?
It is completely free to loan a reminiscence box.
How do I borrow a reminiscence box?
You can send us an expression of interest by emailing us at borrowabox@royalmintmuseum.org.uk. We will send you an online form to sign up and add you to our distribution list once we receive your details. We are unable to provide an estimated time for when you will receive the reminiscence box as it varies depending on how many care homes are already on our waiting list.
How do I loan a box that has Welsh audio?
If you are interested in loaning a Welsh language version of the reminiscence box, please contact us at borrowabox@royalmintmuseum.org.uk and we will send you an online form where you can select your chosen language. Please be aware that our reminiscence box team will send all correspondence in English.
I have booked a reminiscence box, how do I find out when I will be receiving it?
We have 25 boxes available to loan. Due to the nature of the project we cannot estimate exactly when you will receive a box, but we have created a handy map tool showing all the care homes who have booked a reminiscence box. Simply find your location and click on the icon labelled with the name of your home. The details of your loan should then appear on the left of the map.
How long is a loan period?
Each loan period is 20 days, including postage. There is a 72-hour quarantine period for the box between each loan. We will share the day the reminiscence box is due to be collected at the beginning of your loan so that you can plan accordingly.
How do I use my Museum in a Box?
You can watch our ‘How to’ video here to find out how to set your box up, but if you are still having problems please get in touch and we will be happy to provide further support.
