The first of the new coins (1968)

The first time the public got chance to use the new decimal coins came in April 1968. The new 5p and 10p coins differed from the shilling and florin only in design, circulating alongside their pre-decimal counterparts, and helped the public to familiarise themselves with the new decimal coins whilst also providing reassurance about the simplicity of the changeover.
