Gymnastic: Jonathan Olliffe

What got you interested in the competition?

I chose gymnastics as a design because I saw it as a challenge, creating movement with the ribbons used in gymnastics was a useful tool to create that illusion of movement. I see it as quite a poetic sport.

What was the inspiration behind your idea?

This design derived from working mainly with images from, books, the internet and watching video-takes of gymnastics and how the ribbons move and the different types of ribbons that are used in the gymnastics sport.

How does it feel to know your coin is going to be in the pockets of millions of people for years to come?

I like being part of the Olympics in a different way because it’s my way of being part of it but in a design sense using my silversmith experience.
