London 2012 Paralympics - Boccia fifty pence piece

Boccia: Justin Chung

What got you interested in the competition?

The reason why I wanted to enter this competition is because as a university student I like to challenge myself so I wanted to draw something and enter it.

What was the inspiration behind your idea?

My inspiration came from watching some films of the games on YouTube and then to observe the participants, the court and audience and I was really interested in the expressions on the athletes face, you could see by their twisted face and their body language we can see how hard they try to win and the spirit is what I really wanted to capture on my coin design.

How does it feel to know your coin is going to be in the pockets of millions of people for years to come?

What I feel about the coins going into circulation to the UK is really amazing, I have been chatting to my friends about it and they are really proud of me and they say if they get a coin they will shout and say my friend designed that and that is exactly what I will do as its really exciting and I never thought this would happen.

How do you feel about being part of the London 2012 Olympic Games?

Being part of the Olympic 2012 is an honour for me as I know the games only happen every four years and everyone in the world knows about it so I am really pleased that I have this chance to get involved with the competition.
