Athletics: Florence Jackson

At only nine years old, Florence Jackson was the youngest ever designer of United Kingdom coinage when she produced this reverse for the Athletics 50 pence piece. Florence won a Blue Peter competition, which included more than 17,000 entries – the largest competition that Blue Peter had held in over a decade. The first issue of this design was struck in 2009, available exclusively in a special presentation pack. Two years later it was issued into circulation as part of the commemoration of the 2012 London Olympics.
