How do I enter?

Make sure you tell us your name, your age and your school, so that we can tell you if you are selected for the shortlist.
Do I have to pay to enter?
No, entry is completely free.
Who can enter?
Anyone aged nine to eleven (years five and six) who lives in and is schooled in Wales.
Can I enter independently, or do I have to enter through my school?
If you go to school in Wales and are aged nine to eleven you can enter.
Can I submit more than one story?
You can enter more than one story.
What is the prize?
The prize is a commemorative coin, a set of books written by the judge, Eloise Williams, for the winner and the library of the school they attend. The story will be published online and in print in several publications. There will be nine ‘runner-up’ prizes of a commemorative coin.
Will my details be stored or used?
Not at all. We will only use your details to contact you if you are selected for the shortlist and no data will be collected from entries.
Where can I find more information about decimalisation?
On our website we have a learning zone dedicated to decimalisation, but you can use inspiration from any source.
Do I have to use one of the suggested topics?
No, they are just ideas. You can write your story about anything at all connected with decimalisation.
Can I submit my entry in Welsh?
You certainly can.
How will the winner be decided?
The ten finalists will be selected by the Royal Mint Museum team. All entries will be read and evaluated, then ten finalists will be shortlisted. The winning entry will be selected by Eloise Williams.
How will I be notified if I win?
If you are short listed to receive a prize, we will contact you via your school unless you specify that you would like us to contact you differently.
What will happen if I win?
The winning story will be published, and your entry will become part of the Royal Mint Museum collection, along with the other shortlisted entries. Because of the restrictions to keep us safe from COVID 19, we may not be able to arrange a presentation. If a presentation is not possible, you will receive your prize through the post. There may be interest from the media in the story, but we would discuss that with you and your guardians at the time.
