Year of the Horse Exhibition

The Museum helped with an evening exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum this month for the launch of the Royal Mint's Year of the Horse coin for the Shēngxiào Collection which has been designed by Wuon-Gean Ho.

Coins and Kings

The new Coins and Kings exhibition at the Tower of London has now opened.

The permanent exhibition, which is a joint venture with Historic Royal Palaces, explores the story of the Mint during the years it was based at the Tower between c1279 and 1812.

Accredited Museum status 

The Royal Mint Museum has now achieved full accreditation status.

The Accreditation Scheme, which is administered by Arts Council England, sets nationally agreed standards for museums in the United Kingdom.

Bridgend College visit

Bridgend College visit

This month, two groups from Bridgend College studying money skills, visited the Royal Mint. The students were given a tour of the Coin Press Room and were each allowed to strike a £1 coin for general circulation. These

visits form an important part of our expanding educational provision. For more information on educational visits, please contact the Museum's Learning Manager, Lucy-Ann Pickering.

Museum Open Day

The Museum held an open day for Royal Mint staff to come and see some fo the highlights of the collection. Items on show included Edward III nobles and the Royal Mint's collection of trial pieces for the coinage of Edward VIII.

First volunteer joins the Museum

This week the Royal Mint Museum welcomed its first volunteer, Flora Woodruff. Flora will be helping to catalogue and digitise photographs from the Museum's collection that will then uploaded to the website. Through this and other projects the Museum aims increase public annccess to the collection.

Bullion Launch

To celebrate the launch of a new vault facility and a new fineness in gold and silver bullion, The Royal Mint held a special event at the Tower of London. The event took place back in December, and was attended by more than 150 people. The Royal Mint Museum displayed a beautiful selection of objects from its collection, showcasing the Mint's long history with precious metal coinage. This included an impressive array of gold coins from the reign of every monarch since the 14th century.
